Completion and Employment Rates and Calculation Methods

Council on Occupational Education (COE)

The reporting year must cover 12 months. Institutions may choose the most recent 12-month period ending June 30 and reported annually in December.

  • Completion Rate: total completers divided by cumulative enrollment minus students still in school at the end of the reporting period.
  • Placement Rate: total completers employed in their field of training divided by total completers minus those unavailable for employment or who refused employment.
  • Licensure Rate (if applicable): number of individuals who passed the licensure exam(s) divided by those who took the exam(s).

Texas Completion and Employment Rate Calculation

The Completion Rate is the number of students who graduated as a percentage of all students who left school, excluding those who entered other postsecondary education, the military, incarceration, or died. The Employment Rate is calculated by dividing the number of graduates employed in a related field by the total number of graduates, excluding those who entered other postsecondary education, the military full-time, were incarcerated, or died. Both placed and not placed graduates are counted.
